PoE refers to Power over Ethernet, a power supply transmitted over Ethernet. It is a technology that can simultaneously transmit power and data signals through network cables to power supply network devices (such as IP cameras, wireless access points, VoIP calls, etc.).

The PoE technology allows device power to be supplied via ordinary Ethernet network cables without requiring additional power cables. This simplifies equipment installation and cabling, and reduces maintenance and management costs.

The PoE uses an additional pair of wires (also known as data pair 4 and data pair 5) to transmit DC power from a network switch or injector to a remote device. These devices are equipped with special PoE ports to receive and convert this power supply signal.

There are multiple versions of PoE, the most commonly IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at (also known as PoE +). The IEEE 802.3af standard provides up to 15.4 watts of power output, while the IEEE 802.3at standard provides up to 30 watts of power output. This means that POE + -enabled devices can provide the power needs of devices with higher power requirements (such as convenience store surveillance cameras or indoor wireless access points).
